Powder Metallurgical (P/M) Powders

Pressing and sintering of complex parts.

 INQUIRE

PPM Ltd. produces custom powder metallurgical (P/M) powders to suit individual customer specifications.  Powder metallurgy is the process of forming ceramic/cermet/metal parts by compacting and heating (also known as sintering) powders without melting it to the point of liquefaction.

The basic process is as follows:

  1. Powder manufacturing (PPM Ltd. products)
  2. Blending powder
  3. Compacting
  4. Sintering
  5. Part machining and finishing (if necessary)

P/M is a technique widely used in industry to mass produce small intricate parts such as gears, cams, cutting tools, piston rings, and bearings. Some of the various P/M technologies include press-and-sinter, metal injection moulding (MIM), hot isostatic pressing (HIP) and powder forging.  Advantages of powder metallurgy over other forming methods such as metal casting and forging  include excellent material utilization, formation of complex shapes, and tight dimensional control that often eliminates the need for additional machining or finishing.

We have extensive experience and are familiar with the requirements of domestic and international powder metallurgical powder customers. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our capable and experienced engineering staff.  Samples for qualification are available upon request.
